Ever think that a doorman would go from tidying up the welcome mats to the red carpet? Probably not, but in Brooklyn Heights that's exactly what happened.

The city's building service workers union just named Crown Heights resident Ronald Williams, 57, Brooklyn's Best Doorman. He's been the doorman at the same building on Clark Street for more than 27 years.

Out of the 500 ballots cast throughout the borough, Williams received about 50 votes - more than any other Brooklyn building worker.

Williams, originally from Bed-Stuy, started three decades ago in the business at Taino Towers in East Harlem. A friend that knew how far he had to travel everyday let him know that 101 Clark Street, a 310-unit building, was hiring. He's been there ever since.

He's grown up with many of the building's residents and it's clear they love and respect him.

Williams was presented with his prestigious award at a gala held on October 28.
