Brooklyn Heights, NY Restaurant Review: Iron Chef House

Near the Brooklyn Heights Cinema, you can find some great sushi and Japanese food at Iron Chef House. The food is expensive, and unless you are ordering one of the entrees, rather than one of the lunch specials it is not especially filling. There is a prix fixe lunch for $8.25 dollars and a prix fixe dinner for $17.00 dollars, but I would recommend ordering off the menu as Iron Chef House features a number of cooked specialties that are worth making the trip there.

The sushi is of high quality. Some people say it is the best in the Heights. I am not sure about that, but it comes close. One thing though is that the pieces of fish are probably the biggest of any of the restaurants in Brooklyn Heights. The rolls are huge, absolutely huge. When I want a filling meal, I do not usually order sushi because it is not terribly substantial. But here, you could order a roll or two and feel like you have overeaten.

As an appetizer, you have to try the Tiger Eye, which is "grilled squid with smoked salmon and flying fish roe with garlic ponzu sauce." The squid is moist, tender, and meaty. The Seared Yellowtail Platter, which consists of delicious yellow tail in white sauce, is quite tasty as well. If you are a light eater, you could get away with just ordering these two appetizers, and have a wonderful dining experience. The traditional appetizers, like Gyoza and Yakitori, are strong too, but try the specials like Iron Chef Spicy Mix. The appetizers are about $10 dollars apiece.

For an entrée, try the Flounder Butter or the Chilean Sea Bass, both rich, slathered in butter, and exquisite. But I can honestly say I think the first time I had the Chilean Sea Bass, it may have taken a year off my life. Order it with the eel fried rice as a side. I would also recommend the Mango Shrimp or the Rock Shrimp.

Iron Chef House is located at 92 Clark Street, and you can easily get there by taking the 2 or 3 subway lines to Clark Street or the 2, 3, 4, 5, N, R, or M subway lines to Borough Hall and walking up to Clark Street. It is open from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 4:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Sundays.
