The Perpetrator: 69-year-old Albert Victory, cop killer
The First Crime: In 1968, Victory killed rookie police officer John Verechia
The Justice System: Victory was paroled in 1999 even though he had tried to bribe prison guards to let him escape in 1978.
The Second Crime: In February of 2009, Victory was arrested for driving the wrong way down a Brooklyn street, drunk.
The Jury: On September 22, 2010, a jury of two men and four women found him NOT guilty after deliberating for only one hour.
Why: Victory's lawyer asserted that after the cops found out he was a cop killer, their "perception changed." In other words, they were picking on him. There were "missing NYPD transcripts of police radio transmissions" and the video of the drunk-driving stop ended prematurely, reports the Post.
The Outcome: Victory plead guilty to a parole violation because he was driving drunk past his curfew. He's scheduled to be released from prison in January.
In the New Year, a convicted cop killer will be back out on the streets again thanks to an incompetent parole board, a clever defense attorney, and a bleeding-heart Brooklyn jury...
...With liberty and justice for all.
