Brother Bear: Educational Activities and Games for 2 to 5 Year Olds

Rebecca Hayes
Let's face it, kids love movies, but it's been proven that they should watch no more than 2 hours of TV a day. So why not combine their love of a movie and activities that will help them learn and grow? Following are suggestions for the movie Brother Bear released in 2003. These activities would also work well for preschool classes and party games for this age group.

Watch the movie

Let your kids watch the show while you prepare the activities for the rest of the day or attend to other responsibilities.

Rhyme Activity

Teach your child these rhymes.

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear

(do the actions as requested in the rhyme)

Teddy bear, teddy bear

Turn around.

Teddy bear, teddy bear,

Touch the ground.

Teddy bear, teddy bear,

Touch your shoe.

Teddy bear, teddy bear

Say how-di-do.

Teddy bear, teddy bear

Go up stairs.

Teddy bear, teddy bear

Say your prayers.

Turn out the light and

Say goodnight.

Read a Book

There are a lot of incredible books available to go along with the movie Brother Bear. Pick one you think your child would enjoy and involve them while you are reading. Ask them questions about the pictures and story. Following are a few suggestions of books to read.

  • Just Me and My Little Brother (Pictureback(R)) by Mercer Mayer
  • Brother Eagle, Sister Sky by Susan Jeffers
  • Brothers are for Making Mud Pies (Lift-the-Flap, Puffin) by Harriet Ziefert and Chris L. Demarest
  • Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?: 40th Anniversary Edition by Bill Martin and Eric Carle

Teddy Bear Party

Set up a tea party or picnic and have your child bring their teddy bear. Have small plastic dishes, cookies and apple juice. Have your child come up with a story about their bear and act it out.

Learn about Alaska

Look at a map and help your child find Alaska. Talk about these facts about Alaska:

  • Many people in Alaska fish for a living.
  • Mt. McKinley is a big mountain found in Alaska. It is the highest mountain in North America.
  • Dog sledding is the state sport.

Print off an outline of Alaska and have your child draw pictures of these things.

Snack Time

Spread peanut butter or vanilla frosting on a graham cracker. Let your child set gummy bears on the graham cracker, like they are taking a nap.
