Brother's Copper Kettle Restaurant, Ducktown, Tennessee

Abby Greenhill
Ducktown Tennessee is a tiny town, not very far from McCaysville, Georgia where my husband and I stayed for a few days recently. I found an informational website that listed restaurants in Blue Ridge and McCaysville, Georgia and Ducktown, Tennessee. Brother's Copper Kettle in Ducktown caught my eye.

The listing stated that they have a breakfast buffet on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. They advertise their menu as having hand cut steaks, barbeque, chicken, seafood, pasta and more. They are only open for dinner Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They do have a website, so we took a few minutes to review it before we left the vacation rental house. We set out for a 10 minute ride to Ducktown, Tennessee.

Brother's Copper Kettle Restaurant is literally right off of Highway 64 on the westbound side. This is not a restaurant where you need to dress up; shorts and flip-flops are almost too fancy.

According to the website and their menu, they have a rather extensive selection of appetizers, several chicken dishes, along with steak, pork and all kinds of BBQ. Don't forget seafood, sandwiches, kids' meals, soups and salads, and a salad bar. I was amazed at the variety of food that is available at such a small establishment! But what I found out is that they need to streamline their menu and aim for quality over quantity.

I am going about this restaurant review a little differently from normal. You won't see a photo of the building, or of the food. First of all, it was so cold in there I wouldn't have been able to keep the camera steady. I mentioned the temperature to the waitress but got no response from her.

I took the salad bar as one of my side dishes and it was the best part of the meal, and it wasn't all that great! I ordered teriyaki steak and mashed potatoes. The steak was 'so-so' at best and the mashed potatoes were just plain awful. They tasted like really cheap instant potatoes. They had a strange texture and the color was more beige than white. Again, I mentioned this to the waitress but got no response other than, "You want something else?"

My husband ordered beef brisket which was described as "smoked", but it wasn't smoked at all, there was no smoky flavor, no smoky taste. In general, this was a very disappointing dinner. It started with the uncomfortable temperature, continued with the lack of concern by the waitress for the 'fake' potatoes right on down to the un-smoked brisket.

When I find a restaurant that I enjoy, I pass the information on to you. I feel that I should also let you know if a restaurant is not worth your hard earned money. If you are heading east on Highway 64 near the McCaysville exit, skip Brother's Copper Kettle and head in to McCaysville and eat at the Yellowjacket Restaurant. If you are heading west on 64, continue on for about 30 minutes and stop at the Ocoee Dam Deli, you can count on them for a good meal.

Brother's Copper Kettle Restaurant, 5750 US Highway 64, Ducktown, Tennessee was a big disappointment, that's my two cents worth!

It's good to hear when one has bad experiences at restaurants also. It makes us aware of the fact that we probably should pass that one by.
