"Brothers & Sisters" - Mom Deserves a Little Attention Too

Nora's got a New Life

The show is called "Brothers & Sisters," but doesn't mom deserve some attention too? Sunday's "Brothers & Sisters" was titled "Resolved." It devoted a large chunk of time to the usual "Brothers & Sisters" complications, but it also gave Nora Walker time to resolve a few concerns of her own. Those gradual changes are nudging her away from her brooding empty nest personality and pushing her toward greater independence.

Nora's got a New Radio Talk Show

An ongoing "Brothers & Sisters" theme kept Nora Walker tied to 4 whiny, self-centered, grownup children. Recently she backed away just a bit from full time 'smotherhood.' She's taken the job as "Mom" on KPPQ Radio's "Call Mom'' talk show. The experience is adding a new dimension to her character.

Instead of chasing down her children and their problems, Nora sits in a studio and strangers phone problems in to her. She collects a salary for the same motherly advice her own children could get for free. Unlike her offspring, strangers appreciate everything she has to say.

Nora's got a New friend

Of course her children still have their issues. Kevin is separated from his husband, Scottie. Justin misses his ex wife, Rebbecca. Instead of rebuilding their careers, daughters, Kitty and Sara, spend their days lounging, reading celebrity magazines and scanning the net for online bargains. It's a role reversal that has the aging Nora on a career path while her daughters remain in a slump.

The old Nora would have been agonizing over her children. The new Nora Walker was walking the halls of KPPQ listening to a mellow voice speak about parents and siblings pushing each other's buttons. That mellow voice and the handsome man it belonged to drew Nora in like flies to honey. His name was Dr. Karl West, and after a rocky start they decided to be friends.

Nora's Got a New Image

Nora Walker is no longer just a mother, she's a radio personality now. She's got a publicist, a producer and an audience. To help build the "Call Mom" image, she was scheduled for a photo shoot with her daughters, but that didn't happen.

Before the photographer could snap his first picture, Sara and Kitty arrived late and began to argue over a long dead issue. Instead of stepping in to resolve things the way she normally would, Nora simply demanded they leave.

Nora hasn't completely given up her old motherhood ways, but things are changing. By the end of this week's episode of "Brothers & Sisters" Kevin and Scottie had reconciled, Kitty and Sara had made up. Justin met a girl named Annie.

Sara and Kitty even worked out their career issues. Sara is going to buy a media company (She may end up being Nora's boss) and Kitty plans on teaching. They did all of these things without Nora's help, and she was okay with that.
