Walking into the salon you don't feel like you are entering a cosmetology school. The shelves are lined with Aveda products, the staff is professionally dressed and ready to wait on you. You will be greeted with a cup of Aveda's famous tea or coffee, asked to fill out a quick questionnaire, and seated in a cushy wicker chair.
Once called on you are escorted back to the salon and asked to show your stylist a picture of your desired look. A teacher is consulted and the experience begins. You will receive a scalp treatment then escorted back to the shampoo room for a shampoo and conditioning treatment. A relaxing mini facial and hand and arm massage are given then its time for the cut. The cut is critiqued and if need be corrected by a certified Aveda instructor, you are styled, make-up applied, and out the door for a mere $13.00. No tip is allowed. You will rarely be asked to purchase products, although you might just want to stock up so that you can recreate your new style at home.
The downside of The Brown Aveda Institute experience is that you need at least a two hour block of time to devote to getting a haircut. This is a long time to get a classic bob, but if you know in advance that you won't be in and out remember to bring your favorite gossip magazine or book and the time will fly by.
Other services are available including microdermabrasion, full body massages, color, and their green science anti-aging facial. All services are at a significant discount. Reservations are recommended. For more info: Brown Aveda Institute is located at8816 Mentor Avenue in Mentor and 19336 Detroit Rd in Rocky River. For reservations call 440.255.9494.
