"When mulling over the possibilities for establishing a scholarship in Del's name, we immediately thought of Brown College, as many of our employees - including myself - are Brown alumni," said Paul Rollie, program director for Dakota Radio Group. "Brown College has a long-earned reputation for training solid, quality broadcasters. To help future broadcasters realize their dream, we couldn't think of a better way to pay tribute to our colleague and friend, Del Fisher."
The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually based on financial need, student essay, an evaluation of community service activities on and off campus that demonstrate a personal commitment to service and leadership, and letters of recommendation that address how the nominee met specific scholarship criteria.
Among Merrill's community service activities was the organization and promotion of a radio-a-thon that raised more than $1,700 and 700 pounds of food for Neighbor's, Inc, which is a non-profit, social services agency that provides emergency assistance and supportive assistance programs throughout Northern Dakota County.
"Jonathan is our second recipient of the Del Fisher Award, and we could not be prouder of his commitment to both his broadcasting education and commitment to serving our community," said Dr. William Cowan, president of Brown College. "We hope that he can serve as a role model for all of our students on campus."
