Browns Should Sign Michael Vick

I just saw a story on YahooBuzz that said the Cleveland Browns were not interested in signing former Atlanta Falcons quarterback, Michael Vick.

But they should be.

Although he has had his share of setbacks, Michael Vick would be a good addition to the Browns' stable of quarterbacks.

It was a given that Vick was not going to play right away for whichever team picked him up. He has been out of football for two years and even though he is in reasonable shape he would need time to get acclimated to the NFL game.

Being the athlete that he is would help him get back into playing shape a lot faster than others but he would still need time to adjust to the changes that have occurred in the game since he has been gone.

Michael Vick would add a veteran presence to a young group of quarterbacks and be an excellent back up to the quarterbacks in front of him on the depth chart much like Byron Leftwich was for Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

When Roethlisberger went down with a concussion last season it was Leftwich who filled in admirably, solidifying Pittsburgh's spot in the playoffs and giving the team a much needed boost.

Vick could do the same thing for the Browns.

Stability at quarterback is one of the areas that the Browns need to work on.

Last season Derek Anderson seemed to struggle after a very successful 2007 campaign. Brady Quinn showed glimpses of promise when he filled in for the injured Anderson until he got injured himself.

It was clear that the Cleveland Browns needed a veteran to bring some stability, leadership and experience to the position. Vick fits the bill on all counts.

I hope the Browns do not close the door on the decision not to pursue Michael Vick. He could be just what the doctor ordered.
