Bruce Campbell: a B Movie Actor Finds Success

The New Season of Burn Notice and Other Fine Works

Bruce Campbell returns to television in a second season of Burn Notice on the USA Network January 22nd, , 2009. While he is not the main star, he is a great supporting actor. I think that as a B movie actor he is fine as the lead in his movies, but he has been far luckier in television shows as a supporting actor. When he is a supporting actor the shows do not seem to get canceled as fast. For those who are not familiar with the term B rated movie, it means that it is not a high budget or overtly advertised movie.

It seems that Bruce has been unlucky in more ways than one. For those who are not familiar with the series Burn Notice, I highly recommend it. It is definitely worth watching. The story focuses on a spy who is fired without notice. Jeffrey Donovan stars as Michael Westen, a burned spy who is left without any money or assistance to answer the question of why he was "burned".

Bruce Campbell is cast as Sam, a former intelligence agent and Michael's sidekick on missions who is spying on his friend Michael for the federal authorities. Michael is of course aware of this, but Sam isn't saying enough to destroy Michael, it's merely a matter of keeping the Feds off of his own back. It also co-stars Gabrielle Anwar who plays a character named Fiona, a stunningly attractive and former IRA agent. Fiona is also Michaels ex girlfriend who is working her magic to woo Michael back into a relationship. Fiona also works with Michael and Sam on their missions. This show is packed full of action, laughs and a great story line.

While Bruce has had the lead in a few television shows, The Adventures of Brisco County Junior, and Jack of All Trades they were short lived. These were great shows in my opinion, but they did not do as well as they should have. However for those of us who long for the wacky and zany Bruce Campbell, you can purchase these series and on DVD or rent them on Netflix.

Bruce Campbell has a large cult following due to his early work in cult films like Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn and The Army of Darkness. Bruce's work has not been limited to these films although most people know him from these movies. Bruce has actually worked in the movie industry on approximately 50 films. That doesn't count the numerous television shows he has worked on. Bruce got his start in 1979 on Knots Landing. He has also written two books, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor, and Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way.

Bruce Campbell is a great actor, and he has a twisted sense of humor if you look at the movies he has been in. For instance, Bubba Ho Tep one of my personal favorites is quite different. In this movie he is a seventy year old man who is in a rest home. By the way did I mention that in this movie he thinks he is Elvis Presley? Bruce is cast as playing Elvis and a Black JFK who are destined to fight the evil mummy known as Bubba Ho-Tep. This is a must see for any fan of Bruce's but also if you are tired of the constant flow of mainstream movies. This movie is comedic genius at its finest and at some points ridiculously funny.

Bruce has definitely had some failures in his career as with any actor or actress. The problem is that Bruce has never made it past the point of being more than a supporting actor or a mainstream movie star. However, I personally feel that he is one of the finest B movie actors in the business. One of the biggest reasons that he is successful in the B movie sector is his willingness to participate in autograph sessions and meeting his fans. Bruce Campbell is very personable and recognizes that his fans are a big reason behind his success.
