Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: You Just Don't Get More American Than That

Aly Adair
We have been fans of Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band since 1974 when Springsteen was on the nightclub circuit and played for a $3 cover at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas. Born Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen on September 23, 1949 in Long Branch, New Jersey, Springsteen still has what it takes at age 59 to rock a live audience at Super Bowl XLIII on February 1, 2009. Congratulations to the 6-time Super Bowl Champions, Pittsburgh Steelers with their 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona - you played a heck of a game!

We have seen Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band three more times in concert and I have to say, their performance at the Super Bowl XLIII Half Time Show was the liveliest, happy and fun 12 minutes of Springsteen and The E Street Band since the early days of the classic song "Born to Run." Thank you Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band for finally playing the Super Bowl and rocking it out of the stadium. It was great to see Paul Shaffer on keyboards, although under sad circumstances. Our condolences to the family and friends of Danny Federici, The E Street Band keyboard player who died on April 17, 2008 after a three-year battle with skin cancer.

One of my favorite Super Bowl XLIII commercials was Pepsi and the Bob Dylan anthem Forever Young. It seemed to also fit Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band's attempts to stay forever young during their Super Bowl XLIII Half Time Show. Here is Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan singing Forever Young live in concert.

Visit the official Bruce Springsteen web site to see the 2009 Working on a Dream U.S. and European tour schedule and purchase Bruce Springsteen's 24th album, Working on a Dream.

I have put together some of my favorite Bruce Springsteen music video performances for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band fans. In addition to Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band classics, this MP3 Springsteen playlist includes the best Bruce Springsteen performances with Jon Bon Jovi, Bono and U2, Sting, R.E.M. and the Seeger Session Band. It also includes the Bruce Springsteen Tribute to Tim Russert. Enjoy!

Thanks for the clarification, spacedog! It looked just like Paul and even Matt Lauer said something on the Today show about "good to see Paul Shaffer there." My apologies to Roy Bittan and to the article readers for making this mistake.

Um...that wasn't Paul Shaeffer. It was Roy Bittan (long time E-streeter). Easy mistake with a bald head and glasses, but definetly not little Paul....
