Bruins Score Pick of the 2010 NHL Draft with Center Tyler Seguin

Living near Plymouth, Michigan, I have had the pleasure of watching Tyler Seguin play for the OHL's Plymouth Whalers. On June 25, the Boston Bruins wisely selected Tyler as their first round pick, according to ESPN. Having seen Tyler play in-person, I am convinced that the Bruins have made the best selection of the 2010 draft, and that Tyler will augment an already potent lineup.

Boston has a solid team with some talented veterans. They may not be as loaded as the Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawks, but they are quite good. It would be easy for the Bruins to rely on their veterans, stars like Mark Savard, Zdeno Chara, and Miroslav Satan (whom I also got to watch first-hand when he played for the Detroit Vipers several years ago).

Now, with the addition of Seguin, the Bruins are upgrading their offensive power both now and for the future. Tyler is a natural goal scorer, and creative with his passes on the offensive end. When I watched him play, the only thing more impressive than his goals was his assists. He had the uncanny knack for drawing defenders to himself and then unleashing an amazing pass to a teammate in perfect position to score.

On many teams, Seguin would be able to jump right in, play a ton of minutes and make a major contribution. Being that he is going to play for a team already loaded with talent, expect the Bruins to bring him along slowly. Don't expect a "Seguin line" right off the bat. Instead, I expect the Bruins to insert him from time to time with lines of more experienced players. After all, it takes a while to build chemistry.

With his passing prowess, expect Seguin to enjoy some minutes on the power play. His natural instinct will serve the Bruins well in setting up scoring chances. Also, expect the Bruins to try to play him frequently against defensive lines. Seguin is young and will be expected to handle himself against the bruising, physical play that defensive lines employ.

This highly talented center ensures that the Bruins will suffer no drop in quality offensively for the next several years. He was an excellent draft pick, and I have no doubt that, with Seguin on the roster, the Bruins will advance deep into the playoffs for many years to come and always be a threat to win the Stanley Cup.

Good coverage. I would like AC to give us the option of deleting derogatory comments like the one from Guest on 6/26/2010.
