Bruised Peaches Taste the Sweetest

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli
I've been let down more times than I care to remember

Cheated on, used, and abused.

I've been beaten

And shamed

Lied to and blamed

I've had my share of good times

With those who no longer matter

And bad times with those who still do

I've lost more of myself

Than I can ever regain

And learned more than

I ever wanted to know

But you take the good with the bad

As trite as it seems

'cause the pain only lasts for so long

And I've realized that

The losses in life

Aren't so bad after all

And the let downs

Only make you climb higher

And while it's true that I could have done

Without all the heartache I've had to endure

There's a blessing in it too

'cause some things grow bitter as they ripen

But bruised peaches are always the sweetest
