For anyone trying to lower their fat, including trans fat, calories, or cholesterol intake by replacing butter in their diet, may want to try the creamy and natural Brummel and Brown spread.
What I Love About Brummel and Brown
Brummel and Brown is one of those products that has to be in the refrigerator. I also buy Country Crock, because some family members don't understand the true goodness of Brummeland Brown.
It's almost not fair to cal B&B margarine or spread, because it is not just substitute for another food. This dairy product is worthy on its own merits. B&B is a vegetable oil spread made withnatural yogurt.
That's right, yogurt. It's the yogurt that makes this spread creamy, and adds some nutritional quality to an otherwise nutritional "throw away" food. That means that usually people substitute a vegetable oil spread or margarine for butter, in order to lower their cholesterol, fat intake, and calories. Those substitute foods usually do not have added nutritional benefits like Brummel & Brown.
Brummel & Brown has 5 grams of fat (and some flavor) compared to butter's 11 grams of fat per tablespoon. B&B will only add 45 calories to a dish, as opposed to butter's 11 grams. Thisspread also has zero cholesterol. to butter's 30 grams.
B&B has no trans fat, unlike butter. Trans fat has become the new evil in nutrition.
It is also convenient that Brummel & Brown can be found in the supermarket dairy section. People do not have to make a special trip to the health food market for this butter substitute.
I also like that Brummel & Brown costs only slightly more than other vegetable spreads. It is not extra expensive like some healthier choice items sometimes are.
What I Would Change About Brummel and Brown
As with any of these non-butter spreads, I would make them taste more like butter. Brummel and Brown doe snot have the chemical taste of most butter substitutes, and it is quite pleasant. However, the only butter-like product that tastes like butter, is well, butter.
The other aspect of B&B butter substitute that I would change it so make it even healthier, and increase the amount of yogurt in the spread from 10 percent to something higher. This may not be possible, because it may change the texture of the product too much.
