Bruno's Pizza & Restaurant in Kalamazoo

Yummy Since 1959

I don't know about anyone else, but when I don't feel like cooking, my first thought is "Mmm... pizza." And usually, I don't feel like cooking. Consequently, my family is comprised of four conniseurs of pizza with the youngest being only a year and a half-old. Trust me, he's not too young to know what he likes.

Bruno's Pizza definitely takes the top prize for pizza in Kalamazoo. I've been going there since I was a kid and my parents went there when they were kids. The same smiling, motherly woman (well, grandmotherly... I'm getting older too, I guess) has been behind the counter as long as I can remember and she still remembers me as "Tim May's oldest girl," even though I'm married with two children of my own now. The same faded wallpaper with pictures of the canals in Venice still covers the walls.

Although nearly swallowed by the campus of Western Michigan University, Bruno's Pizza still retains the same family feeling that it has had since 1959. Accomodating a student-sized budget, you can get a large one-topping pizza for around $10.00. As far as flavor goes, it's the best... even if you don't have any sentimental attachment like I do. The pizzas are generously sized and cut into interestingly rectangular pieces (more to a pizza than your traditional round). And as they say (it really does say this in their Yellow Pages ad) "Our secret is in the sauce." They're not kidding.

Be sure to stop in if you're in the Kalamazoo area. Bruno's Pizza opens at 4:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday. And make sure you tell them that "Tim May's oldest girl" sent you... I might get a free pizza out of it!
