Bubba Time: Flash-based Time-distorting Puzzle Platformer

Bubba Time is a flash animation action platformer/puzzle experience created by Newgrounds.com designer killabunnies. More specific credits: Andres Miranda for Graphic Art, Mariano Obeid for Programming, and Luciano Vairoli for Game Design. The additional audio for the flash-based submission was credited to MS Soundtracks. This multi-genre creation was submitted to Newgrounds.com on January 26, 2010 and won a Daily 4th Place award on January 27, 2010.

Game Background

Bubba Time was created originally for the Codear Mash-up Contest, according to the Author Comments supplied on the game's Newgrounds.com site. Someone has stolen Bubba's possessions and has damaged Bubba's clock. Find all the cogs to set time straight again.

Gameplay

The goal of the game is to find all the cogs for the clock to get the clock to work again. There are four stages plus a tutorial stage that will help you get used to the controls. During the tutorial stage, you will also learn how to use the time button. Press X to activate the time button. When the time button is pressed, a number of things can happen, depending on the parameters of that stage.

Another ability that Bubba has is the ability to create and destroy pink blocks. These blocks can assist Bubba in traveling around each of the stages. They can also be used to hinder enemy movements.

In each stage, there are a number of levels that you must get through before completing the stage. Along the way, you will find cogs that you must collect in order to fix Bubba's clock.

Also along the way, you will encounter a variety of enemies and other obstacles. A few of the enemies can be destroyed by destroying the pink block that they walk on. Simply wait for an enemy to walk on to a pink block. Then, with accurate timing, remove that block. The enemy will then be destroyed. Some enemies that fly cannot be destroyed and, instead, can pop the pink blocks.

Touching any enemies will restart the level. You have an infinite number of Bubba lives.

Game Controls

Use the arrow keys to move around. Pressing down will make Bubba crouch. Pressing up in front of a door way will make Bubba enter the door.
Press X to activate the time-bending button.
Press Z to create or destroy blocks.

Game Review

Bubba Time is a fun little puzzle platformer that will keep players entertained with its funky music and puzzling puzzles. With a good number of levels for each of its stages, the game does a good job of giving the game some level of organization. The different time-bending abilities for each stage also add to the game's appeal. Because of the ability to distort time in the game, Bubba Time scores relatively high in terms of replay value.
