Buckfield, ME 04220
In Buckfield's business district there are two restaurants, one of which is located within the Buckfield Inn. Next to the grocery store there is a small theater called the Oddfellow Theater, which offers live performances at times, mostly during the summer. You can read more about the theater at www.oddfellow.com. A small laundromat which lacks a change machine can be found across the street. There is also a bank, a realtor's office, and a post office in the same area.
Outside of the business district there is a convenience store and gas station called the Buckfield Mall. On the other side of town there are some non-consumer industrial and commercial businesses. Buckfield has a large town office building, a library, and a high school as well. A public bathroom can be accessed in the town office during business hours. Another hardware store, a truck stop, more restaurants, and a slightly larger Food City grocery store are located in the neighboring town of Turner. The nearest cities are Auburn and South Paris, which both offer a much wider variety of stores and lodging establishments.
The Buckfield Town Office's website indicates that there is a recreational trail from Hebron to Sumner which passes through Buckfield and is almost five miles long. It states that the trail can be used for horseback riding, all-terrain vehicles, hiking, bicycling, and snowmobiling.
Traffic in most parts of Buckfield is light. Relative to neighboring towns, road conditions are not particularly bad in the Winter, but driving can be dangerous in any part of Maine during the Winter. Inland areas are more likely to receive greater amounts of snow, however. Logging trucks travel on some roads in the area. While there is no airport in Buckfield, small airports are located in Norridgewock, Sanford, and Fryeburg. Large airports are more distant and can be found in Portland, Bangor, and Augusta.
Radio stations which can be received in this area include 104.3-FM (Gardiner) and 1240-AM (Lewiston), both providing occasional local news and weather, as well as 560-AM (Portland), which has weather forecasts on the hour and half hour. Local newspapers include the Advertiser-Democrat (Norway) and the Livermore Falls Advertiser.
More information can be found on the Buckfield Town Office website, located at townofbuckfield.com.
