In August I heard that Bucky Covington would be in Racine Ohio on Saturday September 11th 2010, putting on a show for their Party in the park. I went to Covington's website and put in meet and greet requests for my daughter and me.
I mapped out the directions on my TomTom so I would be ready the day of the show to head out. A couple days before the concert we got our emails that we indeed would be able to meet Bucky Covington while we were in Racine.
Saturday we put our lawn chairs into the trunk of my car, hooked up the GPS, grabbed our cameras and camcorder and my husband, daughter, a friend of my daughters and I got into the car and we were on our way.
We are not much for traveling so even though I live in Ohio I had never been to Racine before. I have also not had the chance before now to use my GPS. I was just hoping my TomTom was as great at getting us to our destination as the salesman told us it would be.
We left the house at noon and on our way we ran into a couple areas that had miles of road work going on. Thankfully since it was a weekend there was no work going in and I just had to drive through tons of orange barrels.
We start getting closer to our destination and up ahead I notice a huge bridge crossing the Ohio River into West Virginia. I told me daughter to make sure and get a picture as we were passing the bridge. What I did not expect is to cross the bridge. I mean I live in Ohio and I am going to a destination in Ohio, why would I cross the bridge into West Virginia? However that is just what we did.
By this time I am thinking my GPS has gone bonkers. My husband asked if I knew if there was a Racine in West Virginia and maybe I had put that into my GPS by mistake instead of Racine, Ohio. I assured him that I had indeed put in Racine, Ohio. We drove for a little while and I stopped at a store to make sure if I really was on the right track to get to Racine, Ohio.
The store clerk assured me that we were on the right track to get to Racine, Ohio and that in just a few short miles we would cross back into Ohio. I asked him if he knew why my GPS would guide me from Ohio into West Virginia just to get back into Ohio. He said that is because in order to get to Racine from Ohio it is easier to come through West Virginia and back into Ohio then to drive straight through.
We were back on our way and it was not long before we were crossing a bridge back into Ohio. We drive along the river through Pomeroy and into Racine. It was beautiful scenery from the time we crossed the bridge into West Virginia and the entire rest of the way to Racine.
We arrived at the Star Mill Park and it was great park that was situated along the Ohio/West Virginia River. There were midway rides, a stage set up for the music, food fenders, games and much more.
When we arrived there we went straight to Bucky Covington's merchandise table and got our meet and greet passes. We had a few hours before the meet and greet was to take place so we walked around and enjoyed the sights and sounds of Racine Ohio's Party in the Park. We got our lunch and ate along the river bank.
We went back to the stage and listened to some good music by other acts that were the openers to the Bucky Covington Concert. They were good and I enjoyed the music but I can not tell you names of the other bands as I did not pay attention. I was there to see Bucky Covington.
At 5PM we went to where the meet and greet was set up to take place. There were a lot of people in line to meet Covington so there was not time for autographs. Everyone did get to meet Bucky Covington and had their pictures taken with him. Bucky was very kind and gracious and it was great meeting him again.
A little over an hour later Bucky Covington came on stage and the crowd went crazy. This was the highlight of Racine's Party in the Park and Bucky had a large and energetic crowd. The concert was amazing. I think he gets better and better the more he performs.
It started to sprinkle when there was around an half an hour left in show but the crowd did not mind and everyone stuck around until Bucky left the stage. Then a large crowd lined up to get Bucky Covington's autograph. We left and headed back home. We had a great time and can not wait to see who will be the headliner next year for Racine Ohio's Party in the Park. We will most assuredly return next year and I am looking forward to it.

Post a CommentWe saw Bucky Covington at the Opry last year. He is good and we like him! Good story!
I have never been to Racine Ohio, either. We use our tom tom all the time. Yet, if it took us into WV, that would have confused me. Great job.
