Buddy's Pizza: Metro Detroits Best Pizza

Lisa Marie
If you live in Metro Detroit, I'm sure that you have heard of Buddy's Pizza. Buddy's first official restaurant pizzeria opened in 1946 on Six Mile and Conant in the City of Detroit, which remains open to this day.

Buddy's specializes in Sicilian square deep dish pizzas. Their pizzas are served with the sauce over the cheese and other toppings, not under the cheese as you may be accustomed to.

My favorite Buddy's pizza is made with fat free cheese and grilled chicken. If you have ever tried to melt fat free cheese at home you know it doesn't melt like its full fat counterpart. This is true for the fat free cheese that Buddy's uses as well. In fact each and every time I've ordered the pizza with fat free cheese the server always warns me that the cheese browns so that I'm not alarmed and think that the cheese is burnt when it is served to me.

My boyfriend's favorite pizza and one I indulge in on occasion as well is the tried and true good old Pepperoni Pizza. The crust on Buddy's pizzas is the best. You get the best of everything when ordering a four square pizza because then you get four corner slices and corner slices are the best.

Besides the two pizzas mentioned Buddy's also offers specialty pizzas as well including a Hawaiian Pizza , made with ham, pineapple and BBQ sauce, and a Super with cheese, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, and green pepper. They also offer other specialty pizzas including Meat Deluxe, Margherita, Original Veggie, Gourmet Veggie, Greek, BBQ Chicken, Chicken Fajita, and a Sicilian.

Buddy's also serves pasta including macaroni and cheese and lasagna, soups, salads, appetizers, sandwiches, and burgers. My favorite soup at Buddy's is their Chicken Tortilla Soup, which is served with fried flour tortilla chips on top along with a little bit of shredded cheese on top. You can visit www.buddyspizza.com for a list of all their menu selections.

You can even finish you meal off with a wonderful dessert made with Detroit's own Sanders Hot Fudge, either served as a Hot Fudge Sunday, or served as a Hot Fudge Cream Puff.

So if you live in Metro Detroit and have never been to Buddy's or if you are from out of town visiting the area stop into one of their many locations including Dearborn, Auburn Hills, Warren, Livonia, Detroit, and Farmington Hills. Buddy's Royal Oak and Bloomfield locations only offer carry out.
