Budget Priced Smart Phone: Nokia's E63-2

Smartphone at a Great Price Without a Contract

Janie King
The unlocked Nokia E63 Smartphone gives the customer the option of getting a relatively inexpensive smart phone and having the freedom of choosing whatever carrier they would like, without being burdened by a cell phone contact. I was excited to see an unlocked smart phone like this because I didn't purchase insurance on my LG ENV3 phone that I have through Verizon. I am not eligible for an up grade until next year. I have looked at several smart phones but the price of purchasing it without a contract is way out of my budget. The E63 is mainly appealing because of its low price. This cell phone features a QWERTY keyboard, with the ability to send and receive emails. It is capable of wi-fi and bluetooth. This phone is good for personal and business use. There is a feature that allows the user to switch from business or personal mode. In business mode the user has easy access to emails and other business applications, while in personal use; the text message feature is more readily available. This is supposed to help a person transition from their work day into their time off of work.

Pros of the phone:

Price: Amazon.com has the phone for sale for $143.54 with free shipping. Many unlocked smart phones start at around $300.00 when the customer is without a contract with a carrier. No being chained to an expensive contract can also provide some savings. A customer can shop around to find the best month to month plan with this unlocked phone.

Stylish: This compact phone weighs 4.44 ounces and measures 2.32 x 4.45 x 0,51 inches. It's comes in black and a stylish red case. The phone case is plastic and not metal but it doesn't have a cheap feel to it.

Google: This phone is able to sync in with your Google calendar and other Google products such as email and files.

Long Battery life: This phone's battery allows the user to talk for 11 hrs or last for 18 hrs of stand by time.

Cons:

Media: The phone does not use itunes, the user has to download their play lists from itunes to the phone via Nokia's Music Desktop software.

No USB cord or memory card included: In order to sync computer files with the phone a USB cord is required and it's not included. Also a memory card is needed to store pictures. Despite adding an additional step to downloading music, the reviews for the speakers have been favorable.

Lack of carrier service: There is a lack of carriers that can provide service to this phone. This phone will not work with all carriers. It's a GSM phone that will only work with AT&T and T-Mobile. This might be an issue depending on what part of the country you live in. I live in Southwest Virginia and T-Mobile and AT&T have very spotty coverage in the rural area that I live in. I have had good luck with T-Mobile on the Coastal region of Virginia so carrier issue can be a problem. I probably won't use this phone all of the time, so it won't be a barrier to me purchasing this phone.
