Budget Saving Patriotic Party Favors for 4th of July

Liz Copeland
It's that time again. Time for summer cookouts and fireworks shows while kids run around with sprinklers as the sun sets. If you're looking for party favor ideas for your 4th of July party that won't break the bank, you're in luck.
4th of July is all about America's independence, so party favors in the All American theme will be perfect, and they're usually cheap.

Sparklers

Cheap, fun, and a staple of 4th of July parties, sparklers can fit in almost any budget. We may no longer be amused by sparklers (okay, we are) but for children, it's fire on a stick that they're allowed to play with. What's a 4th of July party without the ability to write your name in the air ahead of you? Sparklers are where it's at, and they come in packs that are typically packed together for at least an hour of time to relax after dinner while the kids burn off some energy. Just remember to have a lighter on hand, because it's much easier than 300 matches.

Small American flags

4th of July is special because we can all show our patriotic spirit with little American flags without interjection by party poopers. Plus, they make great decorations. A classic cheap 4th of July party favor.

American trinkets and toys

When we think of all-American toys, we look at traditional toys and a few new favorites. Fortunately, they're all cheap. Think about putting together little gift bags for the kids with jacks, spinning tops, paddle balls, punching balloons, high bounce balls, bubbles, or sidewalk chalk. 2 or 3 things in a bag should be enough to entertain them safely for a while at least. Until dusk. Because you know they're expecting sparklers. You DID buy sparklers, didn't you?

Snap & pops

So annoying, so fun! Snap & pops, or poppers, are little bits of wadded up paper with powder inside that makes a loud popping sound when stepped on or thrown. Cheap and fun, but they require supervision if you're handing them to children so they don't try to eat them or throw them at each other. Kids go through them quickly, but they're relatively safe and they're certainly cheap party favors.

Noisemakers

Kazoos, whistles, shakers, and other noisemakers are fun for kids for outdoor parties. Kids love them, but parents and other guests might be asking where you keep the Tylenol. Fortunately, children tend to lose them rather quickly. Perhaps right around dusk. You have those sparklers, right?

Most party favors are geared towards children, because they're helpful to parents and other guests so that they can have a good time without having to entertain and run interference. Well, unless only one kid gets a green kazoo and they won't trade, that is. Fortunately, kids make up for it by showing us all the joy we're missing on 4th of July by being grown-ups.

Most party favors can be purchased at your local party favor headquarters. Many can be bought at your local megastore. Same with simple fireworks. If you have a budget party-favors store that sells trinkets really cheaply, raid them before your party. Check dollar stores as well.

Enjoy your 4th of July, don't break the bank, and hopefully the kids will be worn out by the time you bring out the bottle rockets and black snakes! Fireworks are great party favors for grown-ups. Cheap party favors leave you more money in the budget for fireworks.
