Budget Spring Decorating Tips

Stephanie Craig
Decorating can be expensive. You could spend hundreds or thousands of dollars decorating your home. What if you can't afford that much?

If you are on a budget, you can still decorate your home. You can make changes to your home if you have only $20 or even no money at all. You just need a little guidance.

Do some spring-cleaning. Simply put, you will find by doing the chores that you have been neglecting, it will seem like you have a new home.

Dust everywhere including ceiling, windowsills, and under furniture. Clean the windows both inside and out. Wash the curtains and blinds. Wipe down the walls. Sweep and mop the floors. Try to get out the stains in your carpeting.

In fact, you may not need to spend any money on this tip if you already have the cleaning products. If you do need to buy cleaning products try the magic erasers that are out now, (the store-brands are just fine), make sure you have window cleaner, and get a good duster. In one afternoon, your house will feel fresh and clean without painting anything.

Rearrange the furniture. This tip should be free, unless you decide to buy a pizza and have friends over to help. Even if you just swap out the recliners and the couch, you will have a new look.

You could exchange furniture from different rooms. For example, you could take the table from the end of you hallway and put it in the entrance, then you could put a bookcase from your bedroom at the end of the hallway, and then put the table originally in your entrance into your bedroom. The possibilities are endless.

Borrow decorating books and magazines from the library and get inspired. Do not worry; if you are not happy with the arrangement, you can change it back. You will be surprised how great your home could look with a little sweat and imagination.

Decorate with flowers. When people think of spring, they think of flowers. What better way to decorate for spring than with flowers?

If you have flowers blooming in your yard, cut some off and bring them inside. If you do not have a vase for them, use old bottles or glasses. This saves money and can be a great conversation piece.

If you do not have flowers available in your yard, you will have to buy some. Your option comes down to fake or fresh. Both are excellent choices.

If you decide to go with fake flowers, you can get all you need in one trip. Go to Wal-Mart or Michael's and buy some pots, fake flowers, and foam to arrange the flowers. Cut the flowers and poke them into the foam. You will have an arrangement that will last for years and you will never have to water it.

If you want the real flowers, you will need to pick out flowers, potting soil, and containers. Plan ahead of time where you will need the flowers. If they will be in a sunny area, go for petunias. If the area won't get much sun, buy impatients or begonias.

For the containers, see if you have anything that will work around your house. Old teacups would look great in the kitchen, or an old, deep bowel could be used in the living room or dining room. If you can't find any of these in your home, try looking at dollar stores for containers.

All you will need to do is put the dirt and flower(s) in the containers and water them. Soon you will have a nice decorative piece for your home.

Decorate with pictures. Do you have old pictures and frames sitting around your home? Arrange the pictures on a wall - just don't over do it. You can rotate the pictures with ones already displayed so it will look like you have new ones all the time.

Decorating with scents. If you are lucky enough to have fresh flowers growing in your back yard, you will know how much scent can add to your home. For everyone else, buy your own scents.

There are many options. You can get candles, scented oil air-fresheners, potpourri, or candle tarts (as long as you have a tart burner). The good thing about this is you can change the scent whenever you want. You may want to smell tulips, then change to vanilla, then to watermelon. Just remember to stay within your budget and your house will a treat for the eyes and the nose.

Now you probably have ideas of your own. With a little ingenuity and work, you can have a home decorated for spring and not overspend you budget. You may have a little fun in the process too.
