Not every family lives in a large home with a bedroom for each child, and not everyone has a desirable amount of space when siblings must share. Some must look for budget ways for girls to share a small bedroom. It can be difficult when a room is tiny, but it is not impossible.
After eleven years of life as an only child I was forced to share a small bedroom, and in the long run it did not work. I continued using the same dresser I had always used, but I ended up sleeping on a living room couch for years before moving out of my parent's home. It was not an uncomfortable couch, but it was not an ideal arrangement - at least not for me.
No one should be pushed out of their room by a demanding sibling. It is possible to share and make it work, but it takes a little ingenuity. Look for budget ways for girls to share a small bedroom, and begin with these ideas.
Invest in Very Sturdy Bunk Beds with Storage
Buying budget bunk beds is a mistake when seeking ways for girls to successfully share a small bedroom. Budget bunks could literally kill someone, especially if they are improperly installed and eventually wear out. Invest in very sturdy bunk beds with storage when girls must share. They will last far longer, and no one will end up sleeping on the floor or a couch.
Add a Large and Secure Shelf Unit at the End of the Bed
When trying to save space in a small bedroom with bunk beds, consider adding a large budget shelf unit for storage. It does not have to be placed against a wall. In a small bedroom shared by girls, wall space is probably lacking. The best place for a shelf unit is at the end of a set of bunk beds, even if it ends up in the middle of the room. Girls can use the cubicles to hold everything from books to folded clothing. Securely attach it to the wall and the floor to prevent it from tipping.
Consider Loft Beds if Ceilings are at Least Ten Feet High
A small bedroom with high ceilings has many possibilities when girls share the space. Consider two loft beds on opposite walls, and use the space beneath for budget storage. The space below can be used to store dressers, toys and any other belongings. These types of beds are completely off the floor, and the girls can use the space beneath for budget storage. Loft beds would have been ideal in my small bedroom since the ceiling was high.
These are just some of the many ways that girls can easily share a small bedroom. Floor pillows can be used as seating since it takes up very little space and can be stored quickly and easily. Even standard bunk beds offer space beneath the bottom bunk that can be used with roll out bins.
