1) Go to the local businesses around your school, such as restaurants. Ask the restaurant owners if they would be willing to donate some food, napkins, pop or other items for your holiday party. This would be a great opportunity for that business to get free advertising all while helping out your school.
2) Make a trip to the dollar store and load up on decorations, prizes and while you are there, see if they have forks, spoons, cups and plates. Many dollar stores today carry holiday decorations and themes. Once you are at the register, make sure you mention to the cashier what the items are for and maybe they would be willing to give you a discount.
3) If you can't find a restaurant that is willing to donate food, try asking each parent if they would be willing to bring in an item that will help with the holiday party. Make a list of what is needed and assign the parents accordingly. Have the parents bring the items in the day before the party so you can see what is still needed. Whatever is left over may be able to be picked up at the dollar store or donated.
4) Have the kids make decorations out of popcorn, noodles, cotton or other items. You can use food coloring to make these items fun and festive for the schools holiday party. Another great decorating craft that the kids can do is with tin foil. Have the kids trace snowflakes onto the tin, give them push pins to pin the design onto the foil. To dress the foil up even more, have them use a light amount of glue and glitter. It's a fun, easy and cheap way to decorate your schools holiday party.
Getting parents, residents and the local businesses involved with your school's holiday party is a great way to save on the budget. Also, it's a great way to get people to support your school throughout the year. Just remember, local businesses are always willing to help out their local community. Don't be afraid to ask for donations.
