Living in Dallas, Texas is terrific because of all of the fun things there are to do around town. With a wide array of restaurants that can please any palette and shopping that compares to the shops in New York, Dallas is a treasure trove of fun. However, shopping and eating aren't the only things to do in Dallas.

If you are searching for a fun place close to North Dallas that is family and budget friendly then, look no further than the Oak Point Recreation Center in Plano. The physical address is 6000 Jupiter Road, Plano, Texas 75074.

Oak Point is full of exciting things for you and your family. Get your blood pumping on the rock climbing wall or burn some calories on the indoor track. Your children will love the indoor pool complete with a slide and tumble buckets.

Memberships are available and you can learn more about them from the membership section of Oak Point's website. For those without a membership and those who simply want to try the facility out for a day there are drop in fees. At the time of this writing, according to the Oak Point Recreation Center's website, the daily rate for children age three to sixteen is $3. Children two and under are free with a paying adult. The rate is $6 per day for those age 17 and up.

There is even child care available for members as well as those who drop-in or are enrolled in a class at the center. Reservations are required. See the website for more details.

Kids and adults both love the game room at the center. The game room has a wide selection of sports equipment available for check-out and play. However, memberships cards are required.

The recreation center is opens early at 5am and closes at 10pm, Monday through Thursday. On Saturday, the center opens at 8am and closes at 7pm. On Sunday, Oak Point is open from 10am until 6pm. To find out more about Oak Point Recreation Center, you can reach them by phone at (972) 941-7540. I also recommend visiting their website .

Another of my favorite budget friendly activities to do with my family is to go to the Galleria Dallas. Located in North Dallas, off of I-635 and the Dallas North Tollway, the Galleria is much more than a shopping center. The Galleria Dallas is open seven days a week. Stores are open from 10am until 9pm Monday through Friday and from noon until 6pm on Sunday.

Many people choose to take their children to the Galleria. As a matter of fact, on the popular social website, Meet Up, there area several groups that meet at the Galleria and it is a highly rated venue. The playplace that is jungle-themed is truly remarkable and guaranteed to keep your little ones entertained. You can find the playplace on level three near Saks Fifth Avenue.

The best thing about the Galleria, in my opinion, is the impressive, enormous ice skating rink. Admission is only $9 and skate rental is only $3. The Galleria even offers ice skating classes.

After enjoying the playplace and doing some ice skating, we like to delight in a little goody from one of the Galleria's specialty shops. We will either stop by Godiva Chocolatier for some hand-dipped chocolate strawberries or we'll enjoy some delicious handmade fudge from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.

That is how we like to have a day of fun in Far North Dallas that doesn't cost a fortune. I hope these activities sound fun for you and your family. They are budget-friendly and fun for the whole family!
