Taking a Vacation Doesn't Have to Be Stressful or Expensive

Pamela S Thibodeaux
In today's economy many people fear they'll never be able to afford a vacation. If they do splurge for one, they're concerned about how to pay off those bills. Taking a vacation, however, does not have to be stressful or expensive. There are numerous ways to save money and have a great time. Let's look at a few....

1. Stay Home
No, I don't mean in your house, but think about staying in your home state. Many folks are so interested in seeing what's "out there" they don't appreciate the vacation spots available right in their own backyard (so to speak). There are untold mysteries and surprises and many times these treasures can be found within a few hours or a day's drive - which can save you bundles on hotel and traveling expenses.

2. Festivals, Museums and Fairs
Every state has fairs and festivals throughout the year. Museums are a wealth of information that can be loads of fun.

3. Bundle Up
If you shop for a vacation spot, speak to a travel agent. Though many think this is the expensive route, most of the time when you bundle airfare, hotel & rental car, you save quite a bit of cash that can then be used to enhance your experience.

4. Think "All Inclusive"
There are many ways to save when you consider an all inclusive vacation. Cruises offer various forms of activity plus room & board as well as meals and snacks for a "per person" rate. Guest Ranches are another form all inclusive vacations - for a reasonable price you get authentic food, entertainment, horseback riding, hiking and all sorts of fun things depending on the ages of your family members. When you consider the cost of travel, hotel, activities, etc - an inclusive vacation can actually save you quite a bit of money.

5. Watch for Sales and Specials
Places like Disney, Six Flags, Sea World, etc offer discounts and special deals all year long. Watch for these and plan your vacation accordingly. Even if you're used to taking vacation sometime during the summer - it will benefit you to plan a vacation around these specials.

6. The Great Outdoors
Think camping in a state park! For a small daily fee you can fish, swim, camp, hike, etc.

Remember, vacation should be a time of rest, relaxation and familial bonding. Even if you spend the day doing free things, you can have a great vacation.
