Important Times, Dates, and Locations for
The Buffalo Bills cheerleader tryouts for the 2008-2009 season have already passed, but luckily the times, dates, and locations of the tryouts are pretty much the same every year. The tryouts started this year on March 30th at 10:00am and they were held at Carol Joy's Fusion Dance Studio in Buffalo, New York. On March 30th there will be a free workshop open to all women who are interested in trying out for the squad. Judging will not occur at this workshop, but rather help and assistance as to what to expect at the real auditions will be given. The real auditions began on April 6th; check-in started at 10:00am. Along with a completed application, there was a $45 non-refundable audition fee that was due at the time of the auditions; also women wanting to tryout must bring legal photo identification such as a driver's license or passport. Women participating in the Buffalo Bills cheerleader tryouts had to be prepared and know the routine that was taught to them a week before at the workshop. Cuts were made and finalists were notified.
Requirements
Women wanting to attend the Buffalo Bills cheerleader tryouts must be at least 18 years of age by March 30th, which was the day of the workshop. There are no exceptions to this rule. There are currently not any weight or height requirements set into place in order to participate in the Buffalo Bills cheerleader tryouts.
Dance Attire/Clothing
The clothing that is required to participate in the tryouts is a two-piece dance outfit, along with flesh colored tights or pantyhose. Sneakers or dance shoes are also required to be worn during the auditions. Participants are not allowed to wear any types of jewelry, except for wedding rights and/or small earrings. No clips are to be worn in the hair; judges are looking for a more classic look when it comes to hair and makeup.
Finalists
If you are selected as a finalist you will be contacted, and asked to participate in 3 additional auditions. These auditions took place this year on April 8th, April 10th, and April 13th. Cuts will continue to take place during each of these audition dates. There are approximately 45 openings total for the Buffalo Bill cheerleader squad. Cheerleaders are required to attend all 10 home games, charity events, and participate in numerous other events throughout the year. Also, each Buffalo Bills cheerleader is responsible for buying her own uniform, which costs approximately $400.
Being a Buffalo Bills cheerleader, Buffalo Jills, is a part-time job. Even though you will need to commit a lot of time to the squad, the pay is not that of a full-time job. The Buffalo Bills cheerleaders do not get paid for game days, practices, or charity event, but they do get paid $35 an hour for personal appearances that last longer than 2 hours. The Buffalo Bills cheerleaders also will receive commission on individual swimsuit calendar sales. Even though there may not be many monetary benefits associated with being a Buffalo Bills cheerleader, there are other benefits that they receive such as many discounts with tanning salons, hair salons, photography, among others. Additional information on the Buffalo Bills cheerleader tryouts can be found at the Buffalo Bills and/or the Buffalo Jills official website.
There is a lot of dedication one must have in order to be a Buffalo Bills cheerleader, but if you feel that you have the skills, dedication, commitment, and the time then you should definitely attend the Buffalo Bills cheerleader tryouts next year, and hopefully you will be one of lucky few that can be a member of the Buffalo Bills cheerleader squad during the 2009-2010 season.
