Charlotte Strand
What would you be if you didn't move me,
ebony?
Kindling and some nickels.
Nothing so worthy of love,
to take care of,
overhaul and oil.

And what would I do
if I'd never played you?
Never put in all those
lip-shattering hours
conquering arpeggios and embechure

Where, then, would my youth have gone,
had I not found myself in your notes?
