Bug Bite Marks

Heather Dekin
Mosquitoes circling exposed arms & legs
Like Jaws searching for its next two meals
A meaty leg without an ounce of Off Bug Spray on
An arm hanging out of a flimsy white tank top
Too focused on drinking a Corona to hear buzzing
Watching friends dancing to some classic Springsteen
Feeling the cold grass underneath bare feet
Smelling of Givenchy body lotion and Oranges
Unaware of the multitude forming above
Enjoying the party not knowing of the hundreds of bites
Forming beneath the surface of the skin
Needing to be desperately scratched or rubbed
Only cure is Anti-Itch cream that doesn't remove the itch
Waiting until the bites shrink before attempting another block party
This time with head to toe reinforcements to prevent another attack.
