Make a list of your positive attributes. For example put down you are generous if you give regularly to charities and often surprise friends with gifts. Repeat the full list to yourself often to boost your self confidence.
Practice self acceptance. Celebrate yourself as a unique human being with plenty to contribute. Accept yourself fully and find peace with the things you cannot change. Focus always on the good inside of you and demonstrate it by treating others well.
Change things about yourself that are able to be modified if you really feel like it is needed. For example, if you feel inadequate regarding your education enroll in classes at a community college and boost your academic resume.
Act as though you are in control even in difficult circumstances, project confidence by standing up straight, walking purposefully, smiling and speaking loudly enough to be heard. Practice will make these things more natural and will help improve your self image.
Learn new activities to increase your confidence and make yourself a more well-rounded person. Becoming fluent in a second language, taking tennis lessons or studying world history are all examples of pursuits that can all lead to improved self esteem.
Model yourself after those you admire. For example, if you admire the way a certain person handles conflict you may want to apply his technique yourself.
Associate yourself with others who inspire you and discuss ideas rather than other people. Stay away from negative people and negative talk on your journey to a healthy self image.
Maintain eye contract while speaking with another person. It may not feel natural, at first, but will improve with practice and aid building your self esteem.
Extras:
Take a public speaking class to improve your confidence. You will learn techniques for communicating effectively which is a necessary attribute of a self assured person.
Do not let any perceived failures cause you to lose the healthy self image you are building. Brush yourself off and get back to work with a positive attitude.
