The problem with this is that when you get too scared, you lose your confidence. Once you lose this confidence, you won't do as good of a job as you would be if you appeared to be more relaxed. You need to do what you can to build your confidence as best as you can.
Don't take things too personally. If someone in the room appears to not be paying attention, don't worry about it. Sometimes people just space off and it has nothing to do with you and your abilities.
If you feel you lack the confidence that you need, don't make a big joke about it. Many do this as a way of calming their nerves admitting they are nervous. Don't do this. Your audience will then expect you to be clumsy and bad at your presentation.
Memorize your presentation or speech as good as you can. Just because it's put to memory, you should also be sure to take notes up with you. You can blank out. Your notes will help you considerably.
The audience won't realize when you make a mistake that easily. If you don't stop or point out your mistake, most people will never know that it just happened. Keep it to yourself and just press on. This shows quite a bit of confidence.
A huge indication of someone lacking confidence during a presentation is their body's natural nervous energy. Many people will sway from side to side, play with their fingers, ruffle their notes, bend their knees, or all sorts of other signs of nervous energy. Work on this. Have someone watch you and let you know which of these you might do. Work on not doing these things. By avoiding these things, you will look more confident.
