Building Your Own Online Jukebox with Music Cloud Services

Gerald McLeod
Building and storing your own infinite jukebox, containing your favorite music past and present used to require an extremely large hard drive and deep pockets to pay all of the download fees. But that has changed. Today, practically every song ever recorded and released is available somewhere in the music cloud, the Internet music cloud, that is. Places such as YouTube or blog aggregators like Hype Machine or one-stop streaming sites such as imeem.com make it just a little bit easier. Services are emerging all over the Internet that let you tap into this cloud of music and compile your infinite jukebox without having to download a single audio file.

Music cloud sites are somewhat like social networking sites based on and around your favorite music. You build a profile and share your playlist with your friends. These music cloud services allow you to hijack from the Internet any track you desire and no MP3 player is required. Wherever the music is residing on the Internet, through a music cloud service, you will be able to collect it, play it, and share it. Here are a few music cloud sites I have visited and offer up as a sample of what you can expect when you visit other sites available on line.

Muziic is one of the newer music cloud site. Muziic utilizes YouTube to compile its music database, but does allow you to add your own MP3s to the cloud. To access their iTunes type interface you are required to install there special software which works only with Windows XP and Vista operating system.

Twones tracks your music download and playback activity on both online services and offline mp3 players through a single Web Interface. If you prefer to use downloadable software for your music playback, Twones will track it. You are limited on what you can playback on their site, however, they do encourage all size music download sites to sign up to be included in their search database which will in time give its users a wider variety of tracks to access.

Fizy is a fast (as in blazing response speed) Turkish based music cloud site. It has one of the largest music catalogs of all the music cloud sites I visited. Fizy compiled its audio files from all over the Internet into a database. You access the database and compile your own playlist. The profile builder is very simple to complete.

There are other music cloud site available and new startups joining the ranks every day. Sound quality wise, a music cloud services does not compare with the output of your iPod, Zune, or other MP3 player. There sound may not be in perfect pitch with meticulous high fidelity, but they are FREE and that is a hard price to beat during these hard economic times.
