Building a Successful Business Post Recession

Eisla Sebastian
The recession has hit everyone hard and the recovery phase has not been much better for small businesses. However, as the economy picks back up many people will begin to be more courageous with their business endeavors. This means that people will once again start launching small businesses and they will once again try to achieve the American dream. If you are interested in tossing your hat back into the small business ring then you may want to consider a few business realms that are in high demand.

Respite Care

Respite care is a service that is offered to families that have a relative that needs 24 hour care. The respite care provider can offer either in-home respite where they travel to the person's home to deliver services, or they can provide care in an institutional setting. Respite care can focus on people with disabilities, mental illnesses or with serious medical problems.

In order to succeed in this business you will need special training in personal care, first aid and OSHA protocols. You will also need special licensing. However, while there is a lot of work involved with this type of business it has the potential to produce large profits and a stable income for decades to come.

Retirement Villages

With babyboomers entering retirement there is a huge demand for residential developments that are designed specifically for retirees. These developments need recreation, socialization and security options built into their designs. This is a great option for people interested in a real estate business. The best places to locate these villages are where it is warm, where there is water and where there is easy access to local shopping, dining and recreation options.

Resort Services

Resort services such as laundry, catering and recreation services are another option that small business owners can explore. This business industry niche is experiencing a lot of growth and has the potential for continued growth as babyboomers retire and look for ways to spend their time and money. This option will allow the small business owner to turn what they enjoy doing into a profitable business.

Personal Improvement Services

Personal improvement services include any service that teaches people how to do something. For example, they can include language classes, cooking classes, SCUBA diving classes or even career counseling services. Personal improvement services are in high demand for not only those who have retired and are looking for something to do or something to help them switch career tracks, but for those who are trying to get into college or to start their first career. Personal improvement services can be offered as tutoring sessions, how-to video distributions or mail order businesses or classroom style training programs.
