Bull Shark Vs Crocodile

James
The bull shark is one of the most feared marine predators, mainly due to its high level of aggression and its ability to swim in fresh water. The crocodile is dangerous on both land and in the water, although it doesn't have the same fearsome reputation that the shark has. So, the question is: which one of these apex predators would win in a fight to the death, the bull shark or the crocodile?

Size

I'll be using the American crocodile in this article, as it is nearer in size to the bull shark. An average-sized bull shark can weigh about 700 pounds, while an average crocodile is just about 850 pounds. The difference in size then, is negligible as either can be heavier depending on the individual. No advantage.

Aggression

The bull shark is very aggressive and is likely to attack almost anything. That said, it is also likely to back out of a fight if there is some resistance. The crocodile is more timid and unlikely to attack without provocation, although it is more of a natural fighter and is less likely to back down once already engaged. With predators this size, who bites first is more important to the advantage goes to the bull shark in this category.

Survivability

The crocodile has a thick armored hide that can protect it against the bull shark's bites, but it does have a vulnerable underbelly. The bull shark has scales that will offer some protection against the crocodile's bite, but it will be minimal at best. The most significant advantage the shark has in survivability is that it can remain underwater infinitely, although this is only the case if water is flowing through its gills. The crocodile has to surface to breathe. The shark can also swim at much greater depths than the crocodile. I give the advantage to the crocodile because of its armored hide and ability to sustain heavy damage without dying.

Offensive Weapons

The bull shark has a powerful bite that can deal serious damage to its prey. That said, the crocodile has the strongest bite in the animal kingdom. While its teeth aren't as effective at cutting as the shark's, they are better at gripping. If the crocodile is able to bite the shark, then it'll be able to immobilize and kill it. This is a significant advantage for the crocodile.

Who will win?

Who wins really depends on the environment in which they fight. The shark would have the advantage in deep waters, as it can attack the crocodile from the bottom and deal damage to its soft underside. In shallower waters, the crocodile would absolutely destroy the shark. Overall, I think the crocodile beats the bull shark more often than not.
