I left online marketing several years ago after almost ten years of successes and failures. When I see something as pervasive as the Trump Network on the Twitter Timeline, I am awakened to everything that made me happy to leave that world behind.

The article quoted and linked to above is neither a scam alert nor an accolade. It just says exactly what everyone is told when they think about getting rich working at home and staying in your underwear all day while raking in mounds of cash. A tiny percent succeed. Many who work very hard end up feeling very discouraged. And others simply try and fail with minimal losses. Easy come easy go.

MLM is the online midway, filled with enthusiasm, gurus and guru wannabes. All of the melodies of MLM have already been played endlessly. You can fill your time, spend endless hours on conference calls or at webinars. And always there is something new, or some add-on, or some secret no one else knows but which those who click on the same marketing letter can find out for a price that has been reduced three times to a rock bottom $19.95.

Ouch. I can hardly believe I have been there and done all that.

Take ten pennies and mark one and then pick one at random and if you get the marked one you have maybe a fifty percent chance of doing OK in the Trump Network if the company does not fail. If you are a red blooded American gambling sort, you will shade these odds on the direction of your preference and do whatever you want to do.

The tiny group that succeeds in MLM knows there are always more people where the already failed folk come from.

Two more points.

Trump Network specializes in health products. I was deeply involved in this area and I will simply say that I do not regard alternative health products as a panacea and I am fully aware of the distortions that can crop up in the effort to show that a particular product is somehow efficacious. I am a good example of a person who has lived with all manner of supplements and lived minus any such supplements. Apart from a few prescription medications I now take nothing save a water product that I value. I honestly feel that it makes no difference and that most positive responses to alternative health problems are in the mind. I can testify to the truth that a half hour walk and a calories in calories out approach to weight control are both efficacious and cost nothing.

Finally, while I cannot corroborate this, I have looked at reviews of the Trump MLM and gotten the impression that there is little in the way of training for persons seeking to succeed in this business. That would be a red flag for any business. I am not sure. But I would add that training does not make for success unless the conditions I note above are present. Given the transitory nature of such businesses and the difficulty of actually achieving results, I would not recommend it even if I was 100 percent convinced that it was on the level and not largely an exercise in yet more Web hype that preys on those who want to get rich quick.
