Bundchen Should Be Applauded for Sticking Up for Brady

COMMENTARY | Quarterback of the New England Patriots, Tom Brady, does not have a cowering wife, and that's a good thing. Gisele Bundchen is all over the news this week after defending her famous football husband, and while some feel she should have kept quiet, I think she would have been ridiculed either way.

The famous Brazilian model was the focus of a heckler while she waited for an elevator after the game. Clearly, in such a disappointing moment, the right thing to do would have been to leave Bundchen alone in her woes. The Super Bowl is a passionate, a long-awaited game, and her heart and the hearts of many Patriots' fans were broken that night.

Instead, a New York Giants' fan shouted, "Eli [Manning] rules! Eli owns your husband!"

How could the supermodel keep quiet after that? Had she not said anything at all, she would have been labeled as timid and weak, and been mocked for that. Instead, like any wife who loves her husband, she stuck up for the man and said, "My husband can't [expletive] throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time." She added, "I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times."

It was the truth, and she shouldn't be ridiculed for having an honest and human reaction. The ball was dropped a few times. Had one or more of those passes from Brady been caught, the game could have had an entirely different outcome.

I am not a Patriots' fan, in fact, as an Oakland Raiders' fan, they are my least liked team in the league, but I still believe Bundchen did the right thing.

The first lady, Michelle Obama, is known to be one of the strongest women to ever to be in the White House, and has been rightly protective of her husband, President Obama. While on the tough campaign trail in 2008, she remarked that she was protective and said, "I love my husband. You don't want anybody talking poorly about the people that you love. And quite frankly, I think he's handled this stuff. I'm so proud of how he has maintained his dignity, his cool, his honor."

The former GOP presidential candidate, Herman Cain, suspended his campaign amid the many allegations of sexual harassment, and though some questioned her judgment, wife Gloria Cain stood by his side. She acknowledge their union of 43 years wasn't always happy, but they always stayed together. She said she "takes one day at a time," and felt her husband would be a great president.

With the many divorces that take place in our nation every day, you've got to admire a woman who stands up for her man, no matter what the circumstances.
