Taru Mehta
The State of Rajasthan in India is full of beautiful cities and places. The town of Bundy is one such most beautiful town of Rajasthan that attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. It is situated at the height of around 1800 feet from the mean sea level and hence, has very beautiful weather most of the time during the year. It is spread in the total area of 60 square kilometers. The entire town of Bundy is built in the snake shaped valley, which is full of flowers.

One can reach Bundy by air from the nearest airport of Jaipur that is around 120 miles away. Bundy is a railway station and is connected by train from Ahmedabad and Delhi. The railway station of Kota, which is on main railway line of Mumbai-Delhi, is only 20 miles away from Bundy. There are State transport buses also available for Bundy from all the major cities of Rajasthan. The Bundy palace is the most popular place to be visited. This palace is made up of stones taken out from the near by quarries. This palace is the ideal sample of Rajput style architecture and is full of most attractive wall paintings of various wars that took place during Fourteenth and Fifteenth centuries in the State of Rajasthan. There are large life size beautiful statues of the elephants in the palace all around. There are Divane e Aam and Nobatkhana in this palace. There is a very big picture gallery in this palace, which is full of the pictures pertaining to various festivals, life of animals and birds, and the life of Lord Krishna.

Bundy is also known as the city of stepped wells. There are around 50 stepped wells in this city even today. The artistic designs of these stepped wells are really worth seeing. The Rani Ki Vavdi is the best stepped well that must not be missed. Its pillars and the balconies are full of beautiful stone engravings. The Phoolsagar Palace is the next spot of interest. This palace has the artistic pictures made by the Italian war prisoners in the Sixteenth century. There is a famous hunting place where all the Rajput kings were coming for hunting. The Sukh palace, which is situated in the middle of the town of Bundy, is full of ancient artistic pictures pertaining to Rajput kingdom. Bundy is a small town and your stay here can give you the experience of staying in the natural environment of a Rajasthani village. There is also a museum here having the specimens of the weapons and swords that were used by the Rajput kings in the wars they fought against the Moguls. The famous sword of Rana Kumbha is kept here at this museum.

There are few good hotels available at Bundy like Hotel Vrundavati, Hotel Ishwari Palace, Hotel Royal Retreat, and the Haveli of Brijbhukhanji. All these hotels are reasonably clean and offer all the basic facilities that are required. The charges of these hotels are in the range of Rs.1000 ($25) to Rs.1600 ($40) per day for a double room. The authentic Rajasthani food delicacies are served in all these hotels. It is really a treat to try the Rajasthani food items here in the quiet Rajasthani environment. The summer months are quiet hot here. However, the months from November to February are quiet pleasant here to enjoy your stay. I have visited this small historical town of Bundy once in the year 2006. However, I was able to stay here for only one day. I still look forward to visit Bundy again to feel the Rajasthani life of a small village.

Bundy is an ideal mix of the traditional Rajasthani life along with the historical palaces, forts, and the temples. Such an ideal mix is generally not available for the tourists in India. So, if you happen to get a chance to be in Rajasthan region in India in future, make sure to visit this historical town of Bundy.
