Burger's Lake in Fort Worth, Texas

The dog days of summer have arrived, and if you're like most Dallas area residents, you'll be looking for the best way to beat the oppressive Texas heat. Burger's Lake in Fort Worth is a good choice. Burger's Lake is a 30-acre park that boasts a one- acre, spring-fed, crystal clear, sandy-bottomed lake that's sure to hit the spot on a hot, humid day. The lake has a graduated, level bottom so there's no surprising drop offs to place swimmers in danger. To ward off the yucky stuff that is sometimes found lurking in swimming holes such as these, Burger's Lake incorporates a chlorinated purification system to assure that guests will enjoy a safe and sanitary swimming experience within their waters. For added safety, Burger's Lake employs a full staff of certified lifeguards to oversee summertime revelers trying out the lake's many perks such as the water trapeze, six diving boards and 20-foot slide.

Surrounding the lake, there are two sandy beaches with a generous sprinkling of ample shade trees, over 300 picnic tables and nearly 200 charcoal grills. Outside food and drink is allowed. Concessions, as well as inner tube rentals, are also available on site. For guests looking for fun back on dry land, Burger's Lake also offers sand and grass volleyball courts. Changing rooms and restrooms are also easily accessible on the premises.

Burger's Lake is open daily from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. from Mother's Day through Labor Day, and every weekend in September thereafter. Weekday hours may vary in the months of May and August, so it's best to call ahead to confirm the lake's operating schedule. Admission is $12 per person for ages seven and up. Guests six years and younger are free. Discounts are available for groups of 25 or more. In an effort to make visits to the lake an enjoyable experience for all guests, Burger's Lake does not permit alcoholic beverages or pets on the grounds of the complex. Burger's Lake is located at 1200 Meandering Way Rd., inside Loop 820. For more information, you can contact Burger's Lake by calling (817) 737-3414 or by logging on to their Web site. located at

Last summer I took my family to Burger's Lake. All four of us got very sick sending two of my boys to the doctors and one to the emergency room for massive IVs and meds. I would not even think about going back and would ask you to think if you want to go through what we did. Find a safe place to swim.
