Buried with Honors

Elena dal Friuli

Then time passed
Forgetting you and your peers.

Homeless, they described you
No family to call your own
Someone chose to hurt you
And you died alone.

As a pauper you would rest
But someone who had met you
Could not bear such behest.

A veteran you were
"A prince of a guy" he said
Then took it upon himself
To bury you as a veteran instead.
