Burlap Light Sconce Project

Ann Siper
This rustic light sconce is made from inexpensive burlap that you ca buy at the craft store. You will be using burlap to make a new weight cover that can easily be attached over an old glass globe to free stand on its own.

To Make a Burlap Rustic Light Sconce You Will Need:

Burlap

Resin Kit

Plastic Bowl

Plastic Wrap

Scissors

Newspaper

Power Drill

To get started with this fun project you will need a glass or plastic bowl. You want to lay a layer of plastic wrap inside. One big piece if you can.

Now, cut out a sheet of burlap so that it fits right inside the bowl as well. Mark where the rounded edges are and then cut them out so you have a circle.

Now, reinsert you piece of burlap into the bowl. Press it down so that all surfaces are touching the bowl.

You will need to pick up a resin kit from the craft store or the local home improvement store. Follow the instructions on the kit for mixing the two liquids together

Now, immediately pour this into the bowl You want to coat all of the fabric. It will soak up the liquid, more than enough to hold it in shape once it dries. I like to start by pouring in the resin mix around the top edge and letting it flow down into the center of the bowl.

Poor slowly and let it really soak in so that you do not end up with a hug blob if liquid in the bottom of the bowl. Tip: If you are using a plastic bowl, then drill a hole in the bottom and let it drain out that way.

Now, let this burlap rustic light fixture sit and dry until the resin is hard. Once the resin sets you will need to drill a hole in the middle. This will be the screw hole that allows you to screw the rustic light cover over your existing glass globe or simply over the bulb in the ceiling!

By the way, if you turn this rustic light cover upside down it makes an awesome lampshade!

To make this rustic light cover you can use linen, all textures of burlap, and other rough woven fabrics. You want to choose a rustic fabric that allows light to shine through, but does not leave you looking at a bare bulb.

You will also need to peel the sheet of plastic wrap off the outside of the burlap light cover ones the resin has dried. Pull off slowly so it will remove in one piece.
