The Augustus H. Burley Elementary School, located at 1630 West Barry Avenue in the Lakeveiw neighborhood of Chicago, uses its Technology Program to help students research and incorporate multimedia into their school curriculum. One such component of the Technology Program is allowing students to use iPads in primary classrooms. My co-worker's son attends Burley and he literally can't wait for Monday mornings for when he can again start his school week and involve himself with in the Tech Program.

In 2010, Burley Elementary received grant funding through the Chicago Public Schools to pilot the utilization of iPads. The program aims to support student inquiry and to support further development of literacy. A free iPad app called Simplenote affords students the opportunity to collaborate using their iPads in real time. This allows students to access other students' notes in order to get new ideas and then subsequently reverting back to their own notes to work on their own. This app also allows teachers to gain access to the notes. For more information on the Burley School's use of iPads and their Technology Program, call 773-534-5475.
