Burn the Most Calories by Swimming During the Hot Summer Months

My Favorite Summer Hobby!

Renee Bagley
My absolute favorite summer activity is going swimming. We normally go swimming in our pool daily in the yard, and some days we go to Proctor Lake or the Glen Rose River to cool off. Texas stays extremely hot in the summer, and swimming is the best thing you can do to combat summer heat.

Swimming is not just good for the body, but I find it relaxing and good for the soul. This is where dreams are made and life starts. Taking an inner tube or float out into the water and just floating in the lake is about the most relaxing activity I know of. Plus, you get to soak up the rays and have a frosty cold beverage out in the great wide open. Swimming to me, is like being one with nature and in view of everything great that God created. Underneath the big blue Texas sky - with the trees, birds, the suns natural hot element, endless hills, and wild flowers - how could you possibly go wrong?

Prevention:
I also found out that drowning is still the second leading cause of death of injury-related deaths of children, so if your child can not swim please be sure they were a life jacket! Always follow safety precautions when near the water. When boating or doing water activities, everyone should wear a life jacket, adults included! Save a life - wear a life jacket! My brother was 32-years-old when he drowned, and it goes to show that at any age, and swimming experience you can still drown, so be careful.

Calories Burned:
Go to http://www.everydayhealth.com/calories-burned-swimming.htm to find out how many calories you burn just from swimming. The calories burned calculator allows you to enter your weight, pace, and time spent swimming. It will then calculate the total calories. I calculated to find that if you weigh 170 pounds, and swim in the lake, ocean, or river for an hour - you can burn 463 calories. That is the fastest way I know to burn calories! If you weigh more you will burn more, and if you weigh less you will burn less calories, but that is pretty amazing to me!

The Benefits of Swimming:
Just some of the benefits of swimming: it burns lots of calories, improves cardiovascular fitness, builds muscular strength and endurance, is easy on the joints, and is the perfect way to refresh yourself this summer!

Stay cool!
