The show revolves around the life of Michael Westen, a spy who has been burned. He is trying to figure out who burned him. He is working as a freelance spy to make ends meet. His friend Sam Axe, who was informing on him to the FBI, accompanies him. Fiona Glenanne, his ex-girlfriend, also accompanies him.
The three of them make-up a fantastic team. With Fiona specializing in explosions, lock picking, tracking, weapons, and hand to hand combat. Sam Axe is Michael's best friend. He specializes in hand to hand combat, lock picking, creating diversions, assuming different identities, and other helpful skills for a spy. Michael Westen was a covert operative that used to freelance for the CIA. Michael is also skillful in weapons, lock picking, hand to hand combat, assuming different identities, and Michael can has the skills to "make a shotgun out of a twig", as Sam once said.
The show follows Michael, Fiona and Sam as they freelance and help downtrodden people with unique problems. As they do this, Michael and the gang try to figure out who burned him. Every episode consists of different jobs/favors. While Michael is helping people out, at the same time he tries to figure out who burned him. At the end of season one we learn that the person who burned him doesn't want Michael dead, they want to use him. In season two we see Michael still doing favors/jobs and working for Carla, the person who burned him.
In an episode in season two Michael is teamed up with one of Carla's other guinea pigs. He helps him steal a rare shotgun. Michael tries to find out why the shotgun is needed and is almost killed. At the end of the first half of season two, Michael's loft was bombed, almost killing Michael. At the beginning of the second half of the second season, Michael sets out to find the person who bombed his apartment. He is successful but all that person can help Michael with is by giving him a bank number. Michael now gets closer to the person who turned his life upside down. In the last episode, Bad Breaks, Michael is informed that the person who owns the bank account now knows that Michael is after him.
Burn Notice is our eras MacGyver. But better. There will never be a show that tops Burn Notice. I give Burn Notice a 20 out of 10!
