'Burn Notice' Returns to USA for Season 4

More Dangerous Clients, Villains and a New Addition Await

It's been months since fans saw burned spy Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan) on USA's "Burn Notice," but the season 4 premier June 3 will pick up right where the last season finale ended.

In that season ender, Weston was captured by Management, the agency that burned him a few years ago, while working with them to capture a very dangerous escaped spy named Simon. The escaped spy had previously also worked for Management. As Management moved in on Weston, he was cryptically told by Simon "You'll be just like me now."

Since Simon seemed somewhat deranged, that didn't seem like good news.

According to "Burn Notice" creator Matt Nix in an interview for USA Network, the new season will begin shortly after Weston was shown to be in what appeared to be a luxurious suit. However, there are some minor changes in store for fans this year.

Nix said the show will explore some areas of human nature it has only hit peripherally in the past, especially the "gray" area sometimes found between good and bad. For example, at least one client will be a criminal but is for the most part a good guy that is going up against worse criminals. Another client hates Weston but seeks his aid anyway. Some villains from previous shows will reappear, but going after clients that haven't been seen before.

The roles played by Weston and his friends, Sam (Bruce Campbell) and Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) will also change throughout the season. Nix said he wanted to see what it would be like for the trio to have to go to Fiona's "buddies" for help and have Sam plant the explosives, rather than vice versa all the time. Weston's mom, Madeline (Sharon Gless) also may continue to see increased action.

The season will feature a former spy, played by Burt Reynolds, who will act kind of as a peek into a possible future for Weston if he continues down his current path. Reynolds' character also was burned once but now is a bartender with an assumed name and trouble with some very nasty Russians.

Donovan will be behind the camera as well as in front of it for the third episode as he takes a turn as director. That episode will also feature actor Coby Bell, formerly of NBC's "Third Watch." It is believed he will have the role of Jesse, who becomes another burned spy in Miami and turns to Weston and his friends for help. He joins the team, however, there's something he doesn't know about Weston and Co. that has to do with him getting burned.

Whatever the changes, fans can be sure there will still be plenty of explosions, bickering between Sam and Fiona and probably more questions than answers as Weston tries to get back into the good graces of the spy community.
