'Burn Notice' Season 3, Episode 12, 'Enemies Closer'

In 'Burn Notice' Season 3, Episode 12, 'Enemies Closer' Michael has not one but two psychopaths to deal with. One is Mason Gilroy, the man whose organization he is trying to penetrate. The other is an old friend from his past.

Gilroy has tasked Michael with acquiring the flight plans for small aircraft for the next six months, which is a job Michael delegates to Sam. That is fortunate because who should be find in his loft but a dead cartel button man and Larry, an old friend from his spy days whom he would have preferred never to see again.

It seems that Larry has been using Michael's name in a scheme to rip off one of the cartels for $2 million. Michael's astonishment at the inconsideration is only tempered by Larry's promise to help him clean up the mess. There is a clash in approaches. Larry likes to clean things up by killing everyone involved. Michael doesn't like killing people, even bad people, unless it is necessary.

Meanwhile brother Nate has shown up at mom's house with a new bride. Mom can't stand her, which likely is one reason she is reluctant to move to Vegas with them and away from Miami and the fun filled life her son brings her of spies, terrorists, and criminals.

Sam and Fi are starting to notice that Michael is starting to approach that fine line between doing bad things for good reasons and just doing bad things because it is convenient. For one thing, Sam is placed out on a limb getting that flight plan information and it looks like Gilroy could do a lot of hurt if he acquires any but the one flight plan he is obviously interested in. And Fi can't stand to be in the same room as Larry, who is a creep as well as a psycho. And so Sam and Fi go on a little strike as friends and partners in the art of mayhem against the bad guys.

It does not take long for Michael to realize that maybe his friends are really being true friends by shocking him back from that fine line. And so he draws back and uses his training and imagination to solve both the Larry problem and the Gilroy problem without too much collateral damage.

The upshot is that Michael is in the clear from the cartel, but Larry now has to run sans the $2 million. Larry is very upset, but what can he do? At least this episode.

And Gilroy gets just the one flight plan he needs. Why does he need it? A shipment of weaponized disease? Michael doesn't think so. More, no doubt, to follow.
