Burn Stored Fat Fast with the Kekwick Diet

Summer Banks
The Kekwick Diet is the brain child of Dr. Alan Kekwick and Gaston Pawan. When low carbohydrate dieters suffered from metabolic resistance, they were unable to force the body into ketosis, or fat burning mode, be reducing carbohydrates alone. The Kekwick Diet also referred to as the Fat Fast by many low carb dieters, creates an extreme environment in the body forcing lipolysis to maintain normal body function. Ketosis is inevitable, but so is extreme weight loss.

Fat Fasting for Weight Loss - Is Kekwick Diet Safe?

As is the case with any form of fasting, the Kekwick Diet should not be followed for an extended time or used as a primary diet. Kekwick is only supposed to be followed for four to five days. Ketosis can be checked with urine sticks purchased in the diabetic section of a pharmacy or retail store. Once the dieter is in ketosis and lipolysis is occurring, the Kekwick Diet is stopped and normal low carbohydrate dieting is resumed.

There are no medical conditions or risks associated with the Kekwick Diet. However, dieters who have little weight to lose should not follow the plan. Increasing water intake is also important as fat, released during lipolysis, leaves the body during urination. (You may even see fat floating on the surface of toilet water.)

How to Follow the Kekwick Diet - Fat Fast Dieting

Dieters who want to start the Kekwick Diet, or fat fast, should only consume 1,000 calories per day. About 90% of those calories will be from fat and carbohydrates are limited to 10 grams per day. Foods that work well with the Kekwick Fat Fast Diet include macadamia nuts, mayonnaise, sour cream, full fat cream cheese, tuna, chicken and egg yolks. After the first four to five days, carbohydrates are gradually added back into the diet. In the second stage, dieters eat about 1,200 calories a day for several days before jumping back into a low carb eating plan.

Meals should be spaced throughout the day to curb hunger. On the 1,000 calorie fat fast, eating five / 200 calorie meals may work best. The 1,200 calorie plan can be broken up into four meals of 300 calories. Hunger is not a problem after the first few days on the Kekwick Diet. When the body enters deep ketosis, nausea may occur relieving all hunger. Eating becomes more of a necessity than a pleasure, which could be helpful for food addicts or low carb dieters feeling the urge to fall off the plan for some good, old-fashioned refined sugar or flour.
