What do you Crave tonight ?
On a recent Sunday night, I found myself craving some good authentic Mexican food. So I hopped into my car and headed for Burrito Station in the Beverly/Mt. Greenwood neighborhood of Chicago, at 2750 W. 111th. This casual eatery, underline the casual part, serves inexpensive Mexican food 'til 12:00 AM on the weekdays and 4:00 AM on the weekends. Ever notice that food almost always tastes better late at night?

Buyer Beware!
Just so you know, It gets crowded and a little rowdy on the weekend, especially after the bars close. I've never had any problems myself, but it's s a completely different vibe at night than during the day. Also, there's a big sign hanging in the window that warns patrons they call the police if there's any trouble in the parking lot.

The Sauce is the Boss!
As soon as you open the screen door you're faced with a myriad of choices posted on a large menu up above the countertop. Since I always order the same thing, either a steak taco on a flour tortilla ($2.15 with tax) or a homemade pork tamale (about the same price) both come with a not-too-spicy green tomatillo sauce, I usually ignore the menu. I especially like the sauce because it gives it that extra kick! The steak is always tender and juicy and freshly prepared. It's never dry or greasy. Same goes with the tamales, always moist and just the right size. IMO, they seem to taste better when they're smaller and not made too far in advance.

Where Everyone Knows your Name....
The menu is entirely in English, and the employees, mostly the owner's (Olivia Hernandez) family, two sons and a brother are always there. Service is always efficient and the wait is usually short, even on the weekends. It never takes more than 5 minutes to get your order.

All you have to do is ask
Sometimes I eat in, but lately I've been getting it to go, especially if I'm by myself. However, if you dine in you get a free order of chips and salsa. Just ask. Nothing spectacular, but kind of nice when you're low on money and ravenous to boot! Just so you know, it's sit-down service, no waitresses. Most of the time they bring you out the food, or if they're busy they slide it through a window and you pick it up yourself. No problem.... Just remind yourself you only paid $2 and change for one heck of a meal!

The Price is Right and so is the food at Burrito Station!

I have been going to this place for years. One of my favorite late night places to go. Quality for price was always good. Not so much any more. If the owner is not there the girl behind the register makes you feel like you are bothering her. The food also taste like it has been precooked and sitting for hours. No longer an end of the night destination. Good Luck Burrito Station, it has been fun.

By any chance do you work/own El Gallo?

(Cont.) fight when i'm hungry, but I'm sure its full of d-bags getting out of the bars. This place gets a D- from me, and the only reason it gets that high is because I never became violently ill from eating there. Stay away, it's only 2 miles west to El gallo near cicero ave and well worth the drive.

You rated this dump a 10? Really?! I hope you meant 10/100. The food is mediocre, as in nothing special at all. The staff during the day is rude, quick tempered and prone to screwing up your order. I ate here about 7 or 8 times and at least 5 times they forgot to put something in the bag. Then they swore they did and said if I wanted the missing item, they'd have to charge me again. Great customer service, like its some plot to rip them off one container of beans at a time. I STOPPED eating there when they were closed down and cited by the City of Chicago Dept. of Health for improperly refrigerating the meat and mouse fecal matter on the floor (YUM!). You'll eventually find a mouse or two in any restaurant in a big city, but to be closed down by the health department is usually because of an infestation. They do give warnings and the owner a chance to get rid of the problem before they shut it down you know. Not sure how it is at night because i'm not looking for

It's too bad your son got ripped off, but that's never happened to me. That's why I continue to go there.

This place is a ripoff. My son paid with a twenty, but got change for ten. He told the manager/owner who swore up a blue streak at him. his mother called and the manger swore at her saying my son was a f'ing liar and hung up. I called the next day and without knowing why I'm calling they would'nt even give me the managers name. Take it for what it's worth, but the little guy needs to stand up and be heard.
