Bypass surgery changes the route of the blood so that a block can be avoided. There are many reasons why a person may need this type of surgery, and why arteries can become blocked. The main concern for many is lifestyle. Continually eating the wrong foods, smoking and other factors may contribute to heart disease.
In order to do bypass surgery healthy veins from another area of the body will be used to replace those that are blocked. Often a vein in the leg is used with good results. A section of the vein can be grafted in place of the blocked artery, with the blocked section being removed.
Although medications and a change in eating habits and lifestyle will be recommended for many, patients are able to return to their normal activities after surgery. Some patients are surprised at how well they feel after their surgery and recovery.
Burt Reynolds is scheduled to appear on a popular television show next season. For more information about heart surgery, health concerns or Burt Reynolds, please use the links below.
