Bus Routes That Take You Everywhere You Need to Go in Chicago

Joanna Ammons
#151 Sheridan Bus
This bus route takes you from downtown ChicagoUnion Station to Howard Street Station which is located on the border between Chicago and Evanston.
Most of this ride gives you a great view of the Chicago beaches. Your first view may be Loyola beach if you are starting from the north. It is a convenience to students attending Loyola University. It takes you by Argyle and Sheridan which has a great Asian neighborhood full of tasty Asian restaurants and grocery stores. You go into the scenic heart of Lincoln Park that offers a variety of shopping, unique restaurants and night life. It is the scenic route to downtown Union station.

#49 Western Bus
This bus operates 24 hours a day. A much needed convenience to second and third shift workers. Many years ago when I attended DeVry University, this was my bus route.I enjoyed the convenience of getting off the bus and being near walking distance to college. This bus will take you in to the heart of many Chicago residential neighborhoods and offers the convenience of transportation to anyone living east or west of walking distance to Western Avenue. This route starts north at Berwyn Ave and ends at 79th street. It can really take you far anytime you wish.

If you go to http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/bus/bus/49.pdf you will find the bus schedule.

#56 Milwaukee Bus
This bus helps the northwest to meet southeast. You can get on the train at O'Hare airport get off the train at Jefferson Park and hop on the #56 and ride all the way to downtown Chicago. It will take you right to Madison and Michigan Avenue in the hub to all of the fabulous downtown attractions, dining and shopping. There is no need for the expensive cab ride home from the airport. The bus ride is fantastic taking you through Logan Square Wicker Park, River West and the Chocolate Factory District.

#22 Clark Street Bus
The best reason to ride this bus is that you will be let off right in front of the home of The Chicago Cubs on Addison and Clark Street. I have rode this bus line since my infancy and it never gets tired. I would board at Howard Street Station and get off at Bryn Mawr Avenue to attend St. Gregory High School. Senn High School and Sullivan High School Students largely depend upon this line during the school year as well. You can take this bus and get off at interesting stops like Diversey and Clark in the heart of Lincoln Park Shopping. It can take you through downtown and get you close to the best of state street shopping in Downtown Chicago.

#290 Touhy Bus- Pace Line
This bus line gave me first exposure to the northwest Chicago suburbs. I use to reside on Touhy and Ridge Avenue in Rogers Park. The #290 stopped on the corner at my back door. This bus gives the convenience of traveling east to west between the Howard Street CTA Station (Red, Purple and Yellow Lines) along Touhy Avenue. You travel through many family friendly Chicago suburbs including Park Ridge, Niles, Skokie, Lincolnwood, Park Ridge and Cumberland CTA Stations. You can get off at the end of the line at the Cumberland CTA station and take the train all the way to O'Hare Airport. This bus line also stops at the prime neighborhood shopping areas including Lincolnwood Town Center, Village Crossing and the Rogers Park area of Chicago. My daughter's favorite stop on this bus is at the Village Crossing where they renovated Chuck E. Cheese and there is also a giant Corner Bakery, Barnes and Noble, and a Wild Buffalo Wings Restaurant. http://www.pacebus.com/pdf/schedules/290sched.pdf will take you to the bus route schedule.
