On Sunday morning, hubby and I left our Senior Club meeting location in Edison, New Jersey for our first stop; Independence, Ohio. We had thirty-six people on the bus. Our tour group leader makes the trip enjoyable for everyone by changing seats on a daily basis; we chose to remain in the same seat at the back of the bus. Two other ladies did the same and we learned that they always stay in the back of the bus. It was a pleasant surprise to become friends with these two super ladies. One belonged to our club and the other was her best friend who belonged to another club that met on the same day as ours. The lady who belongs to our club was someone I saw but never got to know because we sit at different tables during the meeting, and it is impossible to talk. How lucky both my husband and I were to make new friends with Lillian and Pat.
Both ladies were widows and both were mothers and grandmothers. They had been on numerous bus trips and shared with us some funny and not so funny anecdotes about prior trips. We were blessed to have a super bus driver; a young female driver who could drive that bus through the eye of a needle and maneuver the narrow streets like it was just a car.
After the first night, we headed for Chicago where we remained for four nights and our hotel was located just outside of Chicago in Hillside, Illinois. During the day we toured the sights of that toddling town. On the sixth night we were back in Independence, Ohio for the overnight, then on to home on Saturday with new friends and a look forward to the next great trip. Stay tuned for more details about the trip!
